Hungarian hotel chain Danubius Hotels Nyrt has won a contract to develop a 11,000-square meter site next to the Gellért Spa in Budapest, Ingatlanok.hu reports, citing national wire agency MTI.
Under the contract signed on December 20, Danubius undertook to build and operate a 150-room hotel of four or five stars on the site within 48 months of receiving the building permit, the hotel chain operator said in a statement.
Tibor Ferenci, head of tender organizer Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévizei Zrt, said the winning bid was Ft 2.4 billion (€9.6 million), considerably more than the Ft 1.5 billion expected.
In addition to building a hotel, Danubius also pledged to upgrade the spa’s IT platform, modernize its heating and security and install a new ticketing system.
