Constitutional Court rejects motion against reform program financial laws

The Constitutional Court struck down an intitiative to abolish the government’s financial laws passed over the summer of 2006 as part of its reform program, on grounds some its passages were violation of legal security, wrote privatbankar.hu.

The petition asserted that only one year after it passed legislation on lowering taxes the government wheeled around and raised taxes instead, infringing legal security.

This was the 12th ruling handed down by the Constitutional Court in connection with the government’s reform laws, of which only three reversed previously passed acts of law.

In August of 2006, members of the court decided to fast track petitions focusing on single aspects of the program, and decided to turn their attention to the one they just turned back about six months ago.
