Veszprém mayor green lights airport development

BudaWest Airport Zrt is set to mount a major property investment to develop a catering, logisitcs and technology complex in Szenkirályszabadja, west Hungary, writes index.hu, based on a report in Napi Gazdaság.

Groundwork for the project is already underway and construction at the Szentkirályszabadja airport is scheduled to begin before year end.

BudaWest Airport, which owns and operates the 400-hectare airport, plans to build a conference center, a logistics facility, a hotel and a technology park.

The local governments of Veszprém and Szentkirályszabadja will modify their land management plans in order to clear the way for the investment.

Meanwhile, the airport’s runways will be extended and made suitable to accommodate planes with 130-150 seat capacity.

BudaWest also plans to build new taxiways, service facilities and install a high-tech navigation system, making it possible for the airport to operate at night and during periods of limited visibility.

The total cost of the development is about Ft 10 billion (€39 million).

For the longer term, there are plans for a waterpark, a commercial and entertainment center and a casino.
