Magyar Telekom has sold its stake in television channel RTL to switch its attention to online content and services, writes Hirszerző.hu. Following the restructuring of a 50-50 joint venture with IKO Production, the telecommunications provider now claims to be Hungary’s largest provider of interactive services.
The deal is expected to be signed off in Q4 2008, pending approval by shareholders and the competition authority. As part of the deal, Magyar Telekom will be spun off the online media units of the joint venture, plus Ft 2 billion (just under €8 million). In return, IKO production will receive the 31% stake in Magyar RTL Televizió, Hungary’s largest commercial broadcaster.
The joint venture’s media content and interactive divisions generated combined revenue in excess of Ft 2.8 billion in 2007.
The All Hungary Media Group is firmly committed to freedom of expression and therefore applies a mostly "hands off" approach to comment moderation. Comments left by readers represent their own views and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or beliefs of the staff, editors or owner of the All Hungary Media Group, who nonetheless reserve the right to remove comments that are off-topic or which moderators consider to constitute "hate speech." Also note that in order to prevent spam we generally close entries off to comments several days after publication.
Note that we will be experimenting with some modifications to the commenting system over the coming days, with the aim of allowing users to post without a CAPTCHA system and other manual anti-spam gizmos. We will therefore be monitoring comments more closely, and if you have any related issues or observations, you can just leave them in a comment on any article.
