Hungary’s first alternative gas provider signs up 6,500 clients

Gas.hu, the first alternative gas provider for residents, launched its service offering simpler and more favorable conditions on 1 June and has already racked up more than 6,500 customers, reports vg.hu.

Households have been able to sign contracts to switch to the provider on the gas.hu website since February, with the contract coming into effect four months later. The pipes, meter and gas quality remain the same, only the bills are reduced.

While consumers are now allowed to choose freely between gas providers by law, Gas.hu, owned by Emfesz Kft, is the only alternative company currently offering residential gas. One of its most attractive promises is to keep its prices 8% below current central prices.
