Hungarian companies sue over public software tender allegedly favoring Microsoft

Three Hungarian companies have initiated a lawsuit regarding a large public procurement tender for software claiming it unfairly favors global IT giant Microsoft, writes napi.hu.

According to the report, the tender document included a requirement limiting the scope to Microsoft products or identical software. The plaintiffs charge that the naming of a company in this manner breaches the rules for competitive bidding.

The same tender was recently in the news in Hungary after it was linked to an “egg attack” against Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at Budapest’s Corvinus University. The contract amount was Ft 25 billion (roughly €1 billion) over four years.

The Budapest Court is expected to announce a preliminary result in the case on Monday.
