APEH in hunt for illegal invoice booklets

Since the introduction of new, easily traceable invoice booklets, Hungarian tax authority APEH has discovered at least one illegal manufacturer of the bills, writes napi.hu

Tax controllers have found several companies using old bill booklets which have not been valid since January, as well as companies using forged booklets. Bills which fit the new rules but are not traceable are illegal to obtain and use. The penalties for using irregular bill booklets can be up to Ft 1 million (€4,355) per bill.

Companies using bill booklets have to inform the tax office about the serial number of every bill they use, which APEH continuously monitors. The tax office also updates the database published on its website every two weeks, and, using this database, each bill can be traced by its number.
