The government discussed for the first time formally a broad-ranging package of proposals that would take effect over several years at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, head of the Prime Minister’s Office Péter Kiss said.
The package was published by Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány last Wednesday.
Ministers have until next Wednesday to present solutions to problems in the package, after which the government will finalise the package and present it for public debate.
The government discussed the package during the summer and the details are now being worked out, Mr Kiss said. The programme will be fleshed out with proposals requested by the farm, environment and health ministers, he added.
The programme includes proposals for tax cuts that add up to HUF 1,000-1,200bn over several years.
