Hungarian performing arts to see jump in state support

Hungarian performing artists organizations support the draft of the performing arts act, László Gyimesi, chief secretary of the Hungarian Musician and Dancers’ Union announced, hirextra.hu reported. The Ministry of Culture and Education set aside Ft 4 billion (€16 million) for the performing arts, but even if the bill becomes a law this fall, it will only go into effect in 2010. If all parties agree to the terms, however, the law could be allocated for in the 2009 budget.

The act will increase the financial resources available for performing artists, such as a 50% increase for musicians. Once the corporate tax is modified, the funds available to musicians may be even increased by an additional Ft 1 billion.
