Budapest mayor’s cabinet and District V battle over Fashion Street developments

The Budapest Mayor’s Cabinet did not back a District V initiative to annul protection of 11 buildings at its October 14 meeting, reports Index.hu. State news wire MTI learned that the buildings would need to be demolished in order to provide space for the shopping center developments in the “Fashion Street” project.

The downtown district has initiated proceedings to annul the protection of seven buildings on Petőfi Sándor utca, and one each on Harmincad utca, Kristóf tér, Hild tér and Királyi Pál utca . District leaders think protection of these buildings is unjustified, and is a hindrance for development.

The Budapest Mayor’s Cabinet did not back the proposal, because they believe the buildings possess architectural value.
