Regulator wants mobile firms to drop termination fees 40% by 2010

Hungary’s three mobile phone service providers will have to reduce their termination fees in three steps to a fee of HUF 11.86 per minute by December 1, 2010 under a draft resolution of the National Telecommunications Authority (NHH), the NHH said on Wednesday.

NHH said the termination fees will drop around 40pc by 2010 following a decrease of 30pc over the last three years.

The draft resolution is now up for consultation and a final resolution can happen after approval by the European Commission by the end of this year, NHH deputy head Edgar Ludanyi said.

Termination fees charged by the mobile phone service providers differ currently. T-Mobile charges HUF 19.75 per minute, Pannon HUF 20.29, and Vodafone charges HUF 20.99.

All three providers must reduce their termination fees to a uniform HUF 16.84 beginning on January 1, 2009 under an earlier NHH resolution.
