The Székesfehérvár prosecutor’s office has pressed charges against Fülöp Benedek, head of agrarian affairs at the state asset manager MNV, and two others, on suspicion of abuse of office. Benedek said he will respond after studying the indictment.
An investigation found that the Székesfehérvár land registry office issued a ruling at the intervention of Benedek in 2006 that a court later declared unlawful.
In the ruling, a 200-hectare, state-owned nature conservation area in Pákozd was transferred to an entrepreneur and then rezoned so that a foreign investor could build a golf course.
The prosecutors claim that Benedek was assisted in this action by a former head of secretariat at the Agriculture Ministry, where Benedek was the undersecretary overseeing land offices in 2006, and by the former head of the Fejér county land office.
