French developer to spend €140 million plus on mall expansions in Hungary

Ségécé Hungary Kft, owned by the French firm Klépierre, is planning construction of a new shopping mall and expansion of three current ones in Hungary, reports vg.hu (subscriber only).

Development Director Zsolt Kertai told the portal that the retail space at Székesfehérvár’s Alba Plaza, Budapest’s Duna Plaza and Nyíregyháza’s Nyír Plaza will be expanded. Between €140 million and €160 million will be spent on the three projects in upcoming years, while construction of the Corvin Atrium, a 34,000-sqm mall on Budapest’s Corvin sétány, will be continued. The complex, expected to be completed next year, was sold to Klépierre by the Futureal group.

In case of Duna Plaza, a 9,000-sqm expansion is planned. This will be the second expansion of the mall since its opening in 1996, the first of which was much smaller in volume and not very successful.

Experts predict that new renters will be difficult to find for the two countryside malls.
