Duna Tv became the first channel in Hungary to offer digital terrestrial television, broadcasting its too channels using the new technology from Monday afternoon at Budapest, Kabhegy and Szentes, writes Hírszerző.hu.
Former monopoly broadcaster Antenna Hungária holds the exclusive rights to broadcast free-to-air programming, a technology offering a free alternative to cable and satellite television.
Antenna Hungária said it was in advanced negotiations with Hungarian state television, although an agreement with Hungary’s two major commercial channels still seems to be some way away. Cable broadcasters would look to renegotiate their contracts should the channels become available free of charge in this form.
The analog signal will be discontinued on December 31, 2011.
