Consumer telecom spending falls for first time in six years

Hungarian households’ annual spending, in real terms, on telecommunications equipment and services fell for the first time in six years in 2007, a survey by GKIeNET, T-Home and T-Mobile reveals.

The decline came as the price of telecommunications equipment and services fell, even as headline inflation reached 8pc.

The weight of spending on telecommunications within the consumer basket dropped to 6.8pc in 2007 from 7.1 pc in 2006, the survey’s authors noted. The weight rose each year earlier in the decade from 5pc in 2000.
