Hungary’s National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF) plans to inaugurate 6.7 kilometres of high speed roads worth a combined HUF 17.4bn in 2009, down sharply from the 78 kilometres worth a combined HUF 281.3bn in 2008, figures announced by NIF deputy-CEO in charge of investments Andras Szilagyi on Thursday reveal.
Among the eight stretches inaugurated in 2008 were parts of the M0 ring road, including a new bridge over the Danube, around the capital. Work was started this year on the construction of 115.7 kilometres of high speed roads worth a combined HUF 133.1bn.
Though just 6.7 kilometres of high speed roads will be inaugurated in 2009, work will start on the construction of 192 kilometres of high speed roads worth a combined HUF 251bn.
There were 41 kilometres of other public roads worth a combined HUF 16.7bn inaugurated in 2008, said Peter Boros, who is in charge of NIF’s directorate for the class of roads. NIF started building 127.2 kilometres of other public roads worth a combined HUF 31.3bn in 2008.
Next year NIF will inaugurate 142.3 kilometres of other public roads worth a combined HUF 28.1bn. It will start building 485.3 kilometres of the roads worth a combined HUF 233.8bn.
NIF inaugurated 46 kilometres of railways worth a combined HUF 64.7bn in 2008. It started building 20 kilometres of railway worth a combined HUF 14.4bn.
Next year, NIF will inaugurate 74 kilometres of railway worth a combined HUF 70.1bn. It wants to sign contracts for the start of 187 kilometres of railway developments worth a combined HUF 306bn in 2008.
