Media regulator launches TV campaign against excessive TV watching

Hungary’s broadcast authority ORTT launched a TV spots campaign on Saturday to prevent children from watching TV without control, ORTT told MTI.

The purpose of the “Don’t Let Your Child Be Educated by TV” social campaign is to raise the parents’ awareness to the risk of allowing their children watch too much television without their supervision, ORTT said.

The campaign, running until next spring, is showing three powerful 15-second spots on the main TV channels, pointing out the damaging effects of violence and sexual contents of TV programmes on children.

According to surveys Hungarian children aged between four and 14 spend more than three hours on average watching TV a day.

ORTT has launched the campaign in collaboration with the National Audiovisual Council of Romania CNA. A similar campaign sponsored by the EU Phare programme was highly effective in Romania last year, CNA head Rasvan Popescu told MTI.
