Guest nights spent at commercial accommodations by Hungarian and foreign tourists fell 6.5pc in November 2008 from the same month a year earlier. Guest nights in January-November fell 1.4pc from the same period in 2007, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Monday.
In October, guest nights rose 1.6pc yr/yr.
Gross revenue from accommodation fell a slight 0.5pc in a year to HUF 229.1bn in January-November. Revenue from accommodations, excluding catering reached HUF 131bn.
Hungary’s hotel occupancy rate fell to 43.0pc in November from 52.7pc in October. Occupancy was 49.8pc in January-November.
The number of foreign guests in Hungary increased 1.4pc yr/yr to 3.3m in January-November, and they spent 9.479m guest nights in the country, 2.2pc less than a year earlier. November foreign guest numbers were down 7.3pc at 203,000, and guest nights fell 8.8pc yr/yr to 533,000.
The number of domestic guests rose 2.1pc yr/yr to 3.853m in January-November, but dropped 3.1pc to 274,000 in November. The number of domestic guests nights in January-November was little changed, dropping 0.5pc, at 9.365m. November domestic guest nights were down 4.2pc at 578,000.
About 31pc of all guests in commercial accommodations arrived for business or to participate at a conference in the first eleven months. Health tourism accounted for 11pc of guests on holiday. Spa tourism accounted of 31pc of all guest nights in hotels.
About 29pc of the guests booked their travel through travel agencies, and 28pc of the guests booked via the internet.
The price of accommodation services rose 3.9pc and catering services rose 7.8pc in January-November 2008 from a year earlier. Prices in November rose 0.9pc and 7.8pc, respectively. The figures compare to 6.3pc average twelve-month inflation in the first eleven months and 4.2pc inflation in November alone.
