Competition Office fines Tesco, Spar and Cora for misleading advertising

Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) on Monday said it fined supermarket chains Tesco, Spar and Cora a combined HUF 14m for misleading advertising.

GVH fined UK-owned Tesco's Hungarian unit HUF 10m for not stocking enough of discounted products advertised in its fliers.

Spar was fined HUF 1m for not stocking discounted items it advertised as well as for claiming products were offered at a discount when they were not.

GVH fined Cora HUF 3m for failing to comply with instructions it gave the company as the result of an investigation in October that found stores did not inform bicycle buyers they had to pay extra for a warranty.

what a surprise...Tesco, at least where I live, lies left and right.
They put signs out with prices that are totally incorrect - and
even the wrong number in proportion to the so called discount.

The very day Tesco opened here things were a mess...up till
now. (over a year or so later.)

Items go out of stock...and are not restocked.
Popular items dont come back, but they get more of something
you dont want.

Take summertime.
They had tons of vanilla icecream...never reordered the
chocolate.
When they finally sold out of the vanilla...they brought in
another tuck of it.

I think our city is the Tesco dump...they get the left overs from
the other stores. The bigger Tescos have a more even supply
and seem like heaven compared to ours. (God forbid I even
compare Tesco to Heaven...where o where are the Whole Food
markets?)

Peace

Mike
Got to agree about Tesco, total crap, full of lies, and poor quality.
As for real food try your local "vásárcsárnok" market place, buy from the little old ladies and men from private small holdings. I do not know where you live but here we have an organic/bio food section,in which our business participates.

Until the GVH fines MSzP for the party's mis-representation as part of the last election (I'm recalling specifically the snub to Orban re the economy - the translation I recall was something like 'a Genteleman would not be a scaremongerer'; and the later volte-face to the party faithful about lying mornng, noon and night), I'll continue to think that they play favourites or truthfully lacks teeth.
