Car sales in Hungary drop 50% in January

Car sales dropped by over 50 percent in Hungary in January, compared to the same period of the previous year, the daily Nepszabadsag said on Wednesday.

Altogether 5,953 cars were sold, 52.35 percent less than in January 2008.

Ford was in the lead, with 635 cars sold, Volkswagen second was with 574, while Suzuki, which for many years had lead the sales list, was only third, with 535. This is a 71 percent drop, Nepszabadsag wrote.

Truck sales fell by 56.6 percent, with MAN in the lead, having sold 22 in January, Mercedes 19, and IVECO 11, the paper said.
