Forest creatures hunted by Hungarian taxman

It’s been such a miserable week in business here in Hungary – you might even call it a train wreck of a week – that we think it’s only fair to end things on a light note. The following joke has been making the rounds locally via email (in Hungarian) and from what we can tell this is the first time it has appeared in English. So here it goes: Heard the one about the fox, the stork, the snail and the Hungarian taxman?

A snail is slithering quickly through the forest when he meets a fox.

“What’s the matter, Snail?” the fox asks. “Why are you running so fast?”

“APEH is here, doing wealth gain investigations!” exclaims the snail.

“So?” asks the fox.

“You know I own a house, my wife does too, and all the kids as well!
Think about it.”

The fox does some thinking and starts running, followed by the snail. They soon meet a stork.

“What’s wrong, Fox?” asks the stork. “Why are you running so fast?”

“Haven’t you heard? APEH is here, doing wealth gain investigations!”

“So what?” says the stork.

“I own an expensive fur, my wife does too, and all the kids as well!
Think about it.”

The stork remains cool.

“Well, we have nothing but this ugly, shitty, cheap nest.”

The snail turns back as he is running away:

“Really? You spend half a year at home and half a year abroad! How can you afford that?”
