Government submits bill to raise retirement age to 65

The government has submitted a pension bill seeking to gradually raise the age of retirement to 65 years between 2016 and 2027, Social and Labour Minister Erika Szucs told reporters on Friday.

According to the bill, the retirement age would increase by four months for each age group; the first group to retire at age 65 will be people born in 1962.

The proposal also seeks to eliminate the 13th month pension for new retirees, the minister said. Szucs argued that the current economic situation did not make it possible to continue that benefit.

She added, however, that those already getting the benefit would continue to receive it incorporated in their monthly pensions.

Responding to the announcement, the main opposition Fidesz party said the package was part of a “concentrated government attack against the elderly.”

We may need new ideas pretty soon. “Keep multiplying and waste as much as you can” will not work for ever. “Growth” is the magic word to be replaced with something more reasonable.
“take what you need and leave the rest” as the song says. Relax, enjoy life, and stop worshipping money. How’s that?

Grandma should keep working, but ah, there aren’t many jobs to be had.

Catch-22 or is it simply, let’s avoid retiring the old gal on the same terms that she worked all of her life (subsidizing others to retire at a younger age).
