Bidders appeal Hungary’s decision to cancel mobile frequency tender

Three of four bidders in a tender for new mobile frequencies have appealed a decision by Hungary’s National Telecommunications Authority (NHH) to cancel the tender because of the global crisis, MTI learnt.

DreamCom told MTI on Thursday it had appealed the decision to cancel the tender.

NHH spokesman Gyorgy Marton said the authority had not yet received DreamCom’s appeal, but it had received appeals from two other bidders, Digi and Mobinet.

The fourth bidder in the tender was Invitel.

Explaining its decision to cancel the tender, the NHH said: “Since the announcement of the tender, both the domestic and the international economic environment have deteriorated significantly, which questions the financing conditions and (investment) return projections of the bids.”

The tender would have offered a chance for a fourth player to enter Hungary’s mobile market.
