Competition heats up over television rights to Hungarian football championship

Digi TV, the Romanian cable company owned by Hungarian-born businessman Zoltán Teszári, is close to bagging a contract offered by the Hungarian Soccer Association (MLSZ) to broadcast the Hungarian football championship in 2010-2011, kreativ.hu reports.

Digi, which is about to launch its owns sports channel this summer, stands to win the broadcasting rights after it topped RTL Klub’s offer with a Ft 800 million bid, of which Ft 180 million will go to the club that wins the championship. While Sport Tv, owned by UPC, another cable company, has pre-emptive rights, it is not expected to exercise it.
