There were 2.319m internet subscriptions in Hungary at the end of March 2009, up 0.3pc from the end of last year and up 15.8pc in twelve months, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
Wireless internet subscriptions fell 4.4pc in three months and 29.7pc in twelve months to 648,593 at the end of March.
Within the broadband internet segment, the number of cable subscriptions rose 2.6pc in the first quarter to 736,667, while the number of xDSL subscriptions increased only 0.1pc to 807,106. The respective twelve-month increases were 15.8pc and 2.4pc.
Internet service providers (ISP) had revenue of HUF 37.718bn in Q1 2009, up a slight 2.9pc from the previous quarter, but up12.3pc from a year earlier.
There were 391 ISPs in Hungary at the end of March, down 12 in three months and 26 less in one year. The market remained highly concentrated, with 24 ISPs accounting for 90pc of all subscriptions.
