Hungary lagging behind Europe on wind power

Hungary’s share of Europe’s wind energy capacities is less than one percent, an official of the European Wind Energy Association Jacopo Moccia said at a conference in Budapest on Friday.

Of a total capacity of about 127,000 megawatts of wind energy in Europe, one fifth is in Denmark, while Spain and Portugal each have 11 percent, Moccia said.

The EU’s goal is for wind power to make up 12-14 percent of all energy usage by 2020 and close to 30 percent by 2030, he added.

Hungary’s goal is to achieve a 13 percent wind power share by 2020, Andrea Hercsuth, a Hungarian official working at the European Commission’s Directorate for Transport and Energy, said. Hungary’s wind power capacity totals 176 megawatts, and most wind turbines are found in the environs of Mosonmagyarovar and Csorna, in the northwest, chairman of Hungary’s Wind Power Association Peter Toth added.

Such a shame when there is such an ample source in the Houses of Parliament

The Parliament could also be a great source for hot air and natural gas.
