Magyar Telekom fined Ft 100 million for improper client penalties

Hungary’s National Communications Authority (NHH) on Monday said it fined Magyar Telekom HUF 100m for imposing penalties that were not in line with regulations on clients who terminated loyalty contracts.

The NHH ordered Magyar Telekom to change the penalties to reflect the cost of the contract and of the discounts offered clients with loyalty contracts.

The decision directly affects several thousand Magyar Telekom clients, but could potentially affect several hundred thousand more, the NHH said.

Magyar Telekom’s communications directorate told MTI that the company had complied with the NHH’s earlier stipulations and would appeal the decision.
