Wizz Air to enter Slovak market in fall

Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air on Wednesday said it will enter the Slovakian market with the launch of a Bratislava-Rome flight from September 20.

Wizz Air made the announcement just days after Bratislava-based peer SkyEurope filed for bankruptcy protection.

“Slovakia was always part of our plans. Now the time has come to take advantage of opportunities on the market,” said Wizz Air deputy-CEO John Stephenson. “This is the first step, but more will follow.”

Wizz Air has carried more than 6.5m passengers in the past twelve months. The airline operates from eleven bases in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
