Government reportedly ready to sack head of state asset manager

A political decision has been made to remove Miklos Tatrai, the head of the Hungarian National Asset Management Company (MNV), from his post, online news source Index reported on Thursday.

The parliamentary group of MSZP, which is governing in a minority, agreed on Thursday that “there was no obstacle in the way” of relieving Mr Tatrai from his post, Index said.

Index reported that people close to Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai had pressed for Mr Tatrai’s removal after MNV was attacked in the press for questionable privatisations. Even the prime minister requested in June an investigation of a property exchange related to a planned casino resort on Lake Velence, Index noted.
