Turnover down at Hungarian campsites as western tourists “disappear”

Turnover at property developer SCD Group’s camping sites is down 10-20% so far this summer, spokesman Péter Elkán said.

The drop in guest nights is blamed on unseasonal and wet weather last month, as pre-season bookings in the spring were up 7-8%. The decline may be reversed as warm weather draws in vacationers, Elkán added.

Dutch, German and Danish visitors, who made up a large proportion of the guests in previous years, have disappeared. On the other hand, the number of campers from Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia is rising.
