Subsidies to Hungarian tourism to exceed €1 billion during 2007-2013

More than HUF 300bn in state and EU funding has been allocated for tourism developments in the 2007-2013 EU budget period, minister in charge of the prime minister’s office Csaba Molnar said on Thursday.

Hungary’s thermal baths are a development priority, Mr Molnar said, adding that Hungary is among the world’s five richest countries in term of thermal spas. Budapest’s famous baths were renovated with state and EU funding in 2004-2006, but baths in cities elsewhere in Hungary are being targeted in 2007-2013. The five biggest projects, in Zalakaros, Heviz, Bukfurdo, Hajduszoboszlo and Szeged, are worth a combined HUF 9bn.
