Hungarian shopping portal arukereso.hu bought by South Africa’s Naspers

South Africa’s Naspers has acquired a 75pc, indirect stake in Arukereso, Hungary’s most popular online product comparison portal.

The parties agreed not to reveal the purchase price, Arukereso said when asked by MTI.

Arukereso was acquired by Naspers Allegro group but will continue to operate under its own name. Allegro earlier purchased Hungary’s most popular online auction sites: TeszVesz and Vatera.

Italian investor METRONET holds the remaining 25pc stake in Arukereso.

Arukereso was established in 2004. The portal’s operator, arukereso.hu, has similar portals in Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Portugal. Together, the portals draw about 3.5m visitors a month. The company’s revenue reached 140m in 2008, but arukereso.hu counts on an increase of about 50pc in 2009. It sees pre-tax profit of about the same as last year’s HUF 10m.
