Number of new cars on Hungary’s roads plunges 72% in July

A total of 3,805 new cars received license plates in Hungary during the month of July, down 72.7pc yr/yr, the business daily Vilaggazdasag reported on Thursday, citing statistics from automotive-data company Jato Dynamics.

The Jato Dynamics data showed that the number of new cars that received license plates in Hungary fell 66.6pc in May and 59.3pc in June.

A total of 42,234 new cars received license plates during the first seven months of 2009, down 54.9pc from the first seven months of 2008.

Jato Dynamics Commercial Director Gyorgyi Horvath attributed the July decline to increasingly tight credit conditions as well as the VAT increase that went into effect at the beginning of the month.

Jato Dynamics does not believe that the car market will rebound considerably over the remaining five months of 2009.

Are the car companies offering good deals at the
    moment?

Who says these people have to drive a polluting car? How about jumping on a bicycle instead? In the long run, that promises to be a cheaper means of personal transportation, surely.

They don’t need to have/drive cars that cause
    pollution. Lazy,fat, Hungarians, just prefer
    that method of transport.
They can’t pay their gas bill but, loan repayment
on the house, water bill etc. etc.
But the car is a “necessity/luxury”!? Some households have two.
