Magyar Suzuki, the Hungarian unit of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, targets production of 180,000-190,000 vehicles in 2009, compared to the 281,686 vehicles the company manufactured last year, the business daily Vilaggazdsag reported on Friday.
Magyar Suzuki Communications Director Viktoria Ruska noted that the company has resumed production at its plant in Esztergom (N Hungary) following its customary summer break.
Magyar Suzuki implemented a five-day, two-shift production schedule at the beginning of the year, compared to its previous six-day, three-shift schedule, following the layoff of 1,179 of the company’s 5,523 workers at the end of 2008.
The company now employs 4,300 workers, compared to 6,110 workers a year and a half ago.
Magyar Suzuki currently manufactures 850 vehicles per day at its plant in Esztergom, compared to 1,100-1,200 at the end of last summer.
The company increased its exports 32pc yr/yr to 70,000 vehicles in 2008 and targets exports of 120,000 vehicles this year.
Magyar Suzuki posted after-tax profit of HUF 4.6bn in 2008, compared to HUF 10.6bn in 2007.
