More Hungarians make online purchases, survey finds

About 78pc of Hungarians who use the internet regularly said they had made online purchases, according to a survey by Mai Piac and KutatoCentrum, up from 62pc in a survey a year earlier, the companies told MTI.

The biggest group of people who made purchases online were higher-than-average earning men between 25 and 34 years old.

The number of people making online purchases who live outside of the capital grew.

The most popular online purchases were of electronics, CDs, DVDs, books and clothing. Airline tickets and hotel services were also bought online, and online sale of theatre and cinema tickets grew.

    how do they get the goods delivered – i believe postal service may be a tad risky

    You buy it online, then they give you by E-mail a date, time, and address, and then you go there in person to line-up at some dreary warehouse to pick of your stuff. “Internet purchase” – Hungarian style. :-)

  3. I have been here since 2001 and basically on every week I have both received and sent international post via Magyar Posta. Not just letters but parcels up to 2 kg. Not a single one has gone missing thus far. So in my opinion, the bad reputation of Magyar Posta is a bit overblown.

    But speaking of Hungarian operators, most of them use GLS, DHL or similar courier services, which deliver door to door. Magyar Posta also operates separate courier service – http://www.mpl.hu

    @Mystery Shopper, there is usually no problem in SENDING anything via Magyar Posta.

    Problems do arise however, and serious ones at that, when the crap that you sent and paid for fails to arrive at the intended destination.

    Just ask your avergae Magyar Posta customer.

    Personally, I would not send a roll of soiled toilet paper via Magyar Posta. Not that many people would.

    @anonym:
    this is just not true!
    We received from several sources this year dvds, clothes, packages of paprika powder and even a few bottles of palinka without any problems and generally much faster (and cheaper!) than it would have been in Germany.

    So at least in our little village near the balaton the magyar posta is ok!

    @wolfi, you needed to buy PAPRIKA and PALINKA while in Hungary, and do it so on the INTERNET? And then have Magyar Posta mail it to you while you are still IN HUNGARY?

    Hey, maybe they had “free shipping and handling” going on, hmmm? Otherwise, why not just walk into a strore or supermarket and just buy the spice or palinka that you need, huh? ;-) )

  7. Chimneystack says:

    Magyar posta is ok. Boring twats that buy from
    the internet deserve to get their pornographic
    parcels “nicked”!
    Does anyone know if you can buy firewood (tuzifa) on the internet. I’m fresh out of the stuff and with winter coming on and all that I need to get a move on. I will need door-to-door delivery as well. Need not trouble Magyar Posta on this occasion.

  8. Heh, for online buying, check local paper ;-) But seriously, check out Szuperinfo (or what local free papers there is) as tuzifa sellers seems to be advertising more than previously. And you have to use locals, as most of these businesses doesn’t deliver any further than max 20-25 km from home base.

    It seems some people are too lazy to read here:
    I did write that I “received” palinka and paprika -they were a present from my partner’s relatives in eastern Hungary.
    And I brought some of that “hazi” paprika powder to Germany for some friends who told me later, that it was the best they had ever tasted.
    So after this year’s crop has been dried, we will again take some paprika to Germany…
    We don’t have to sell it, if I give someone 100g at our german “kneipe” (kocsma), they will gladly pay me a beer…

    BTW: The hazi barack palinka also is very much appreciated by my German friends…

    Wolfi, wolfbane or, whatever your fucking name is..
    I think you are Viking. That boring style of pen-upmanship is recognisable anywhere.
    Paprika to Germany, coals to Newcastle, palinka to Portugal.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!
    Can you blame anyone for not taking the time to read
    your mindless drivel!?

    @flowerpot
    I really like the way you keep on spouting unbelievable cr*p at everyone, just make sure you don’t get a heart attack – or at least make sure that it is a painless and quick death!

  15. fynt says:
