New car sales in Hungary plunged 77.4pc to 2,518 in August from the same month a year earlier, after dropping almost 73pc in the previous month, auto industry research company Jato Dynamics said on Monday.
The August drop was bigger than in any of the other 26 European countries in which Jato compiled data.
New car sales in January-August plummeted 57.1pc to 45,937.
In August, Suzuki took the top spot after being beaten by Ford in the previous month. Suzuki sold 360 new cars, albeit 87.3pc fewer than in the same month a year earlier. Suzuki’s market share was 14.3pc.

No wonder, when an automobile costs more than property with a house on it.
Not mentioned are the number of cars, purchased in Hungary but exported to Slovakia.
In the Györ area the majority of sold cars go straight over the border.
