German firm acquires 51% stake in Budapest Film

Germany’s A Company has acquired a 51pc stake in Budapest Film, which controls about 10pc of Hungary’s film distribution market, Budapest Film told MTI on Monday.

Budapest Film plans to continue to release about 25 films a year in Hungarian cinemas. It also wants to build up online screening and video-on-demand services.

As Budapest Film’s competitors have scaled back their activity because of the crisis, Budapest Film has an opportunity to become the most important independent content provider in Hungary, said A Company CEO Alexander van Dulmen.

If Budapest Film was doing so good on their own, why did the Germans took over control of the company just now? Better ask Gordi Bajnai this.

The only Hungarian “online video” web site I saw was where you can watch video clips at either 1Kb/sec or 2Kb/sec bitrates. So, I wouldn’t hold my breath that this is going to make anyone money in Hungary soon.

But maybe they are re-focusing on pornographic videos, now that the legtimate business has toughened-up due to the “crisis?”

    it is called Commerce.

@Schoolchild, whatever the article talk about, buying a 51% ownership in a company is definitely not called “commerce.”

    Nice try, though, Schoolchild.
