Guest nights spent at commercial accommodations by Hungarian and foreign tourists fell 8.7pc to 13.289m in January-August 2009 compared to the same period last year, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Monday. In January-July, 9.9pc less nights were spent.
Nights spent by Hungarian tourists fell by 6.0pc and those by foreign guests decreased by 11.4pc.
Guest nights in August fell 4.5 pc to m from a year earlier, after decreasing by 8.0pc in July according to revisions published on Monday. The drop was 5.7pc in June, decelerating from May, when guest nights decreased 14.1pc yr/yr. The worst month of this year was March when guest nights were 19.4pc less than a year earlier.
Gross revenue from accommodation and related services dropped 8.7pc yr/yr to HUF 151.588bn in January-August, after falling 9.7pc in January-July. Revenue from accommodations, excluding catering, amounted to HUF 88,761bn in January-August, down 7.4pc yr/yr, after a drop of 8.5pc in January-July.
