While Finance Minister Péter Oszkó seems to be doing a good job keeping Hungary out of trouble with the EU and the country’s other lenders of last resort, he’s not doing as keeping himself out of trouble with the municipal authorities in the Budapest district he lives in. According to opposition daily Magyar Nemzet, Oszkó has been slapped with a big fine – as in millions of forints – for building a cellar under his new house larger than the permits he had permitted.
The former CEO and Chairman of the local branch of international auditor Deloitte had bought a lot in District II in the spring 2007, which came complete with construction permits acquired by the previous owner. Oszkó, however, built something bigger than the permits allowed. Happily for him, his mistake will not mean that he has to have the house demolished. We hope the same goes for the economy.

Screw that prick!
