Number of new homes, building permits plunge in third quarter

The number of new homes put on the market in the third quarter of 2009 shows a sharp 23pc drop from the same period of 2008 and the number of new home building permits fell 40pc in the same period, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Monday.

The number of new homes put on the market in January-September this year fell 1pc from a year earlier to 20,270, and the number of newly issued home building permits fell 26pc to 23,119 in the same period.
