Wallis Watch (II): No salary caps for PM’s former colleagues

While Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai is making a big show about reducing the compensation of executives at state-owned firms, conservative daily Magyar Nemzet charges that the campaign has spared people he previously worked with at the Wallis Group, which Bajnai ran until joining the government a few years back. As one example, the paper points to Gábor Ormosy, CEO of Hungarian Economic Development Zrt (MAG), who is said to get Ft 4,950,000 (roughly €18,000) a month, including various perks – such as dining allowance – of a half a million forints. Which does seem pretty rich, especially considering that MAG is responsible for distributing EU funds on behalf of the state, meaning the potential for even more… “bonuses.” Anyway, never let it be said it doesn’t pay to chum up to co-workers who seem headed for better things.

    NOBODY in Hungsry is worth €18,000 a month. In fact, there may only be a handful of Hungo-geniuses who are worth €1,800 a month. There is a reason why most Hungos get only the minimum wage — that is all they are worth, after all!

    A dining allowance of half a million forint. At 20 working days a month that gives him 25.000 a day. How the fuck do you spend that much everyday. Even lobster is less than 5000 in a restaurant. Unbelievable.

  3. wolfi says:

    Well, if you go to one of those establishments in Budapest that are so luridly described on pestiside and “wine and dine” some of the good-looking ladies there,you probably can spend that allowance in one evening/night…

  4. david says:

    @wolfi. He sounds more like the kind of person that owns them establishments and not just one of their customers.

    @david: might well be!
    We have an old proverb: The more you got, the more you want…

    @wolfi: nice try to measure up, smart aleck wolfi, but I’m rather afraid david here took your proverbial, provincial Balaton wetland hide to the cleaners. Like I always do myself.

    You are an easy target and an even easier adversary, it seems.
