Operator of FlyBalaton airport put into liquidation

Cape Clear Aviation, the company which operates FlyBalaton airport in Sarmellek (SW Hungary), has been ordered under liquidation by the Zala County Court, the court told MTI on Tuesday.

Cape Clear Aviation spokesman Arpad Beznicza said Vectigalis would be the liquidator of the company. When asked by MTI to name the party that brought the liquidation procedure against the company, Mr Beznicza declined to answer, saying the information was not public.

Public company records, last updated in March for an ownership change, show Cape Clear Aviation is owned by one British and three Irish private individuals, Cyprus-registered Roxino Investments and Budapest-based property company Quadrator.

Cape Clear Aviation said on October 10 it would again temporarily close FlyBalaton for the winter season but reopen the airport in April.

About 15,000 passengers used the airport between April and October, the operator said. Almost 120,000 passengers used FlyBalaton in 2008, but its biggest partner, Irish low-fare airline Ryanair, stopped flights to the airport in October last year. After the Ryanair flights ended, FlyBalaton shut down until April.

Cape Clear Aviation signed a 99-year lease for the airport with local councils in 2004.

Is this good news or bad news ?

Any opinion whether they’ll open the airport again ? It was so convenient for us in Heviz, we planned on going to London again this year, maybe next year now…

Surely this can only be good news? Hopefully now a competent investor can be now found and bring on board one of the budget airlines.
