Hungarian consumers increasingly using bank cards, but cash remains king

While three or four years ago 85% of bank card transactions in Hungary involved withdrawals of cash from ATMs, in 2008 the percent of payment transactions reached 56%, an executive of the local unit of Raiffeisen Bank told napi.hu.

According to Raiffeisen brand manager Attila Lang, Hungarians are still well below the EU average in using their cards for payment. Last year, the average Hungarian used their card just 18 times for payments, less than half of the EU-wide average of 37.

As a result of these statistics Raiffeisen has decided to further promote the use of bank cards in the country.
