Tender to be issued for site of aborted Government Quarter

A new possibility has arisen for the site of the aborted government quarter in Budapest. Documents acquired by Világgazdaság indicate that an open, international tender will be called to find an investor to rehabilitate the area behind the Nyugati Railway Station. The winner would be selected by the state or national railway company MÁV.

For 20 to 25 years, the winning investor would be granted a concession to use and maintain the area and the railway structures located there in exchange for being allowed to build on the free land. Once this period has expired, the structures would be returned to MÁV, while other buildings such as offices, warehouses, apartments and cultural complexes would remain property of the investor, who would continue to operate them.
