Number of fixed-line phones falls to 3 million in Hungary

The number of landline telephone connections in Hungary fell to 3,080,000 at the end of October or 30.75 lines per hundred people, the National Telecommunications Authority (NHH) said on Monday.

Landline penetration fell to 61.67pc of households by the end of October from 61.59pc one month earlier.

Total duration of calls initiated was 463m minutes in October, up from 471m minutes in September. The total duration of initiated calls per landline rose to 156.8 minutes from 152.7 minutes, while the average duration per call rose to 3.13 minutes from 3.08 minutes.

    One of the advantages of having a land line phone in Germany is making very cheap international calls for around one to two cents per minute, whether to the UK, USA or Hungary.

    You just use a special prefix to be connected to one of a number of companies that offer this service, of course not the T-Com.

    Can you do this in Hungary too ?

    PS: Not using skype or whatever, just a regular landline phone.
