Crisis fails to dent Hungarians’ appetite for delivered meals

gastroyal_foetel.jpgDespite earlier expectations, Hungary’s market for ready-to-eat delivered meals has held up throughout the ongoing recession, reports business daily Világgazdaság. Currently, an estimated 100,000-200,000 such meals are delivered daily to customers across the country, with 80% of the market divided up between three or four companies. According to the report, firms catering to the market had started the year expecting to face substantial drops in sales due to the recession. But it now appears that most customers value the convenience of the services enough to keep their orders, many of which are by the week or month.

As a result, one industry executive was quoted as saying that firms had made a mistake by responding to the crisis with a price war. Even though the drop in prices was only Ft 5 or Ft 10 per order, the executive said the measures were more likely to negatively impact quality than boost sales.

Qualitywise, 80 percent of that delivered food is a bigger scourge on their eaters than the current financial crisis (ripoff?)
