US House condemns ORTT decisions on radio licenses

The US House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a non-binding resolution condemning the decision by Hungarian media authority the ORTT not to renew the licenses of two commercial radio broadcasters, one of them American.

The resolution encouraging Hungary to respect the rule of law passed by a vote of 333 to 74.

In response, the Hungarian embassy said the ORTT is an independent body, as the government has no say in awarding radio licences and cannot influence its decisions. The statement added that Hungary pays special attention to relations with foreign investors, including over 600 American companies, and to ensuring a business-friendly legal environment.

Pity the Hungarian embassy forgot to add that the
chair of the commission resigned because of
    political interference…

Strangely, aside from the gov’t the man heading up ORTT didn’t have any say either. So who the heck is running this agency?
