Work on large new Budapest congress center could begin in April

A new congress center at the Syma events hall in Budapest’s District XIV can start in April, with the building opening in December 2011, development manager Gábor Soós told napiingatlan.hu.

The center will be able to host events for up to 5,300 guests.

Negotiations are currently underway with financial institutions about financing the Ft 4 billion-Ft 5 billion (€14.7 million to €18.4 million) investment, with decisions expected early next year.

Such an easier way to raise revenue in this country would be to change the rules about entertaining such that one can spend on staff without incurring a 49%+ surcharge from APEH. But hey, that would help 1000s of restaurants, trickle throughout the economy and the like while this will only help a couple of construction firms who will then reneg on paying their subcontractors – like those that were shafted at Nepstadion.
