The number of construction companies liquidated this year exceeded 3,000 in November and the total figure for the year could reach a record 3,200, the business daily Vilaggazdasag reported in its issue published on Monday, quoting Opten, which collects information on companies.
Strategic director Hajnalka Csorbai said the number of liquidations seems to have stabilised at a high level, noting the number of voluntary liquidations is growing. This year, 1,845 companies were liquidated by their owners in the first eleven months, up 57pc from 1,176 in the same period last year.
Figures from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show the volume of contracts signed in October 2009 is up 29.5pc from one year earlier. In October last year, however, the volume of contracts suddenly fell in the construction sector as most banks stopped lending to companies at the time. The volume of contracts signed then was less than 70pc of their level one year earlier, therefore even including the current rise the stock of orders, the volume of contracts is still lower than two years earlier.
