Hungary’s mobile telecommunications market is likely to continue to contract in 2010, albeit at a slower rate than the 5-8pc drop in 2008, the heads of the country’s three mobile service providers told MTI.
Hungary’s mobile telecommunications market could contract by 6-8pc in 2010, stabilising only at the end of the year, said Vodafone Magyarorszag CEO Gyorgy Beck. Growth will come only after that, he added.
Mobile internet is expected to bring the market forward in 2010, Mr Beck said. The number of mobile internet subscribers could reach 1,000,000 in 2010 from 850,000 expected at the end of 2009 and 500,000 at the end of 2008, he added.
Pannon CEO Anders Jensen said the contraction on the mobile telecommunications market would likely slow to about 2pc in 2010 from 5pc in 2009.
Magyar Telekom deputy-CEO Janos Winkler said there would not be a pick-up on the market in 2010, but the number of mobile telephone subscriptions would probably stop falling after February.
